10 students for $5000 - Africa is trying to educate their students!

Hi Donna and family, 

Nice to hear from you! I just received your letters for the students today in the mail. ...

A few notes on the process for this year:

1) Two students - Ramadhani Chakoma and Hamisi Seif - finished Form 6 last month. So they are no longer at the school. I will call them and get an address to send their letters to, as they are not at Ndanda. 

2) The other seven students were in Form 5 last year - you may recall that you selected 8 new students last year, and one of them was expelled from school. So we already have these 7 who you will sponsor this year. I will send them their letters once school opens back up, as they are currently on vacation.

........This is $500 per student multiplied by the 10 students (seven current and three new ones who we will choose). You included an extra $1000 last year as 'emergency money', which we can use this year since it was never spent. Therefore, we will need you to send a check to Jiamini for the remaining $4000, whenever you have a chance. I've included  my colleagues Elizabeth and Brad on this email so that they can know to expect a check in the mail.

Dear Parents of Joseph Chow,

How are you?  I am very glad to greet you through this letter.  In my side I am ok with my family as well.  Concerning my studies  are going well, as for the last term I was third in my class and I performed a grade "B"

In December 2012 the situation of our school was not good due to rioters made by Islamic students in our school agains the school administration.  Thus the school was temporarily closed... Now everything is cool and we live peacefully in our school..
During the holiday I went home to help my parents do various agricultural activities...
... I still want to study economics and study economics and statistics.  I would like to go to University, wherever I get a chance.  I would like to go first to the USA, second Tanzania and third in South Africa. If I get into any of these universities I would be happy.  I would like to get a good job, marry and have four or five children.  I think I would like to live anywhere in the world, but due to my family I will probably stay in Tanzania......

Thank you for your help since it makes me to continue to have plans of my future life, because it gives me confidence that one day I can achieve a better life.  This is not only for me, but for my family, society and nation at large.  I wish you good work and if ever work would allow it I welcome you agin in Tanzania.  Come and visit, and we will be happy to see you.....

Dear Parents of Joseph Chow

How are you..  I am glad to tell you tat my relatives and I are well....I celebrated the New Year at my home in Mikindani...I wanted much to wish you a happy new year through a phone, but I failed..

Here at school now all situations some how going fresh.  But at the last midterm (from September 27th to December 23rd) there were riots in school and caused to close school before the end of midterm.  So this hindered us to take the examinations.   Then after closing the school on december 3rd it reopened on December 27th.  But many students and me were late at school due to problems of communication...  In that holiday I helped my mother in her small scale farm.  Also I spent time to teach my friends and to study to my brother.  On January 2nd I turned back to school, and now everything is going well.

...It is in my future plans to be a good economist in Tanzania.  This is why I have taken EGM (Economics, Geography and Mathematics)  I like much to pass the university exam, and I would like to go to UDSM  (University of Dar es Salaam) so I study hard to succeed.  Mu mother has told me "That success without struggle is like to put an empty pot on the stove and to expect soup in it" and she also says "And good life never comes as a dream, so study hard."

When I have a job, I will build a house in Mtwara, and have a wife and two children.  I will make sure that m children get a good education.  Also I will fight for development of our region.  I would also like to travel, and visit you if that is possible.

Will you come to visit this year?  You are welcome much at Ndanda in Tanzania.  Thank you very much, I wish you long and good life   Also I wish all the best to your other relatives and your friends.  We are still love you and thank you very much.

I like to write this letter to tell you about my condition..  I thank to god for the new year and I wish also to you a good start of the new year.
...When I am completing form six I would like to join the university studies... and after my education I would like t start a family...not a large complicated one... a small family
In my life I prefer to one day go outside of my community in order to exchange environment and look or see how the people live in particular environments because i am sure it will be big help to me to learn different things... and I can gain some ideas and knowledge..... I would like to thank you again for your help... you are providing much to help me be successful with my studies.

Hi? Parents of Joseph Chow!

It is my hope that you are doing well at America.  At Tanzania is cool.  I carry on studying hard.  I do pray to the god for you to what you are doing to me to facilitate my studies at Ndanda.
I would like to tell you about my ambitions.  My ambitions have not changed  from the previous one.  I do remember that I did tell you that my ambition was to service in financial institutions such as a bank, but according to the situation of Tanzania these days, as going on there is the problem of unemployment in many institutions including that one, since I had two alternatives one like that above and another to be a teacher, if one fails, I will do the other.
...I study hard so that I can pass the examinations which will enable me to get my chance.
In Tanzania, since most of families are low income earners we are going at university through government assistance.  The government provides a certain percent to the student  If you get a favourable percent of assistance then you can go, if not, you can't go.

If god blesses me to get the favourable percent of assistance I will go to university where I will graduate and get employment.... I cannot tell you how it will be.....

Dear parents of Joseph Chow,

First of all am so happy and I like to say how are you!  Myself I am so fine maybe to you... I would like to say thanks a lot for your support, because it led me doing better and continue well with my studies as well as getting essential things like washing soap, books, exercise books and others.

Now I would like to tell a bit about my ambitions.  Just I make sure that working hard to  my lessons ... and go to university to be an accountant in order to work as a manager at a financial institution.... I would like to live at my home region, Mtwara.  I would like to build my own house at Mtwara municipal and to live there.  I would like to travel to the USA because it is one big nation which maintains its peace and security.  I would like to be with small family, better if god wish.
....   I work hard in my subjects for more success... I come from a poor family, so I do not want to let them down.  The main theme is just learning more.

Dear family of Joseph Chow

How are you?  How is health goin on?  ... I was sick in December, but now I am okay and I am going on in my studies.  I will not tell you my results of annual exam cause all of us, we didn't do examinations due to some problems which occurred in our school (demonstrations) and cause school to close for more than two weeks, but now everything is ok.

....let me take this last golden chance to give you and say with smile thanks alot for your back up in my studies that I going to finish in February...without your great back up in this process of getting an education I may be now in the village without education cause my parents could not afford all the costs.
Apart from that, my sponsor, I would like to tell you that my dream is to go to university.  I will take the BA in education.  I would like to be a teacher cause there are jobs in the field, even though the life of a teacher is facing may problems.  If not that I would like to go into Jounalism and comedian sector, as I play part now in my school.
